Follow on Google News | Great Potential Press Publishes "Bright, Talented, & Black"University of Louisiana, Lafayette Assistant Professor Dr. Joy Lawson Davis has written a book about gifted African American learners.
By: Great Potential Press African Americans represent approximately 18 percent of the general population in the U.S. However African American children represent only 8 percent of those identified and served in school gifted and talented programs nationwide. It is tragic that many bright and talented African American students will never realize their full potential, often because parents’ and teachers’ lack knowledge of how to nurture their strengths and talents. Based on her work as a long-time education professional, as well as her experience as a parent, Joy Lawson Davis, Ed. D., offers both practical and caring advice to help readers find and encourage African American children. Dr. Joy Davis is an Assistant Professor of Education at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette where she teaches courses in Diversity Education and Gifted Education. She holds two advanced degrees in Gifted Education from the College of William & Mary in Virginia. An active member of the National Association for Gifted Children, currently serving her second term as chair of the NAGC's Diversity and Equity Committee, Dr. Davis is also a new co-editor of the "Special Populations Newsletter" and writes a column for NAGC's "Teaching for High Potential" focusing on Special Populations of gifted learners. # # # About Great Potential Press: Great Potential Press, Inc.® is an award-winning publishing company devoted to books and videos for parents and teachers of gifted children.
