Dec. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- A good vet is vital to the health and happiness of your animal; it is important you feel comfortable with your choice of vet as they will be responsible for the well being of your animal.
The most important thing to check when choosing a veterinary practice is that they are accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). All accredited practices are subject to rigorous checks every few years by a qualified inspector; random spot checks also occur in between these to make sure practices are up to the highest standards. This is all part of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme which accredits veterinary practices by the services and specialities they offer giving you peace of mind when it comes to the treatment of your animal.
Vets are able to offer professional advice on everything from choosing the right animal to their exercise and diet. It is advised you find a vet in your local area before you actually purchase your pet; also recommends you take your animal for a general health check after buying. Although the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme is in place to provide quality assurance, if you’re concerned, take the opportunity to visit several surgeries in your area and meet the staff so you’re confident in their services.
At our comparison is done by distance rather than price; it is incredibly important you find a local vet and also check whether they offer 24 hour emergency care. If your local surgery does not offer 24 hour emergency care use to find one that does and make sure you can contact them even if you’re pet is not registered there... just in case the worst happens out of surgery hours!
