Dec. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- Homestead police received a 911 call reporting the first attack just before noon. A woman reported that a man went into her home in the area of Southwest 288th Street and Southwest 187th Avenue and raped her, then left the home and ran away.

Authorities confirmed that the victim is the wife of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent.

Miami-Dade Police Department sex crimes investigators joined Homestead police in the investigation. Police set up a mobile command unit near a church parking lot and took to the streets and the air as they tried to find the rapist.

"The dogs, the K-9 units, and just a lot of undercover agents, the chopper," were involved, said neighbor William Petrovich.

After two grid searches, in which officers plotted and canvassed the neighborhood, no arrests were made.

A second home invasion was reported at about 8 p.m. at a residence a few blocks away. Police said two men broke into a home there and shot the homeowner in the face. According to investigators, the victim's son shot at the men, but they escaped.

The shooting victim is in critical condition. Police said they do not believe the two home invasions are related.
