Dec. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- The company is participating in the organisation’s ‘Take it off for cancer’ initiative which is an official Guinness World Book of Records attempt to collect as many bras as possible and connect them in a chain.

Organisers are intent on breaking the existing record currently held by Australia and the objective is to collect more than 167 000 bras. Once all the bras have been collected and the official record attempt made, they will be distributed to impoverished women in rural communities.

According to information made available by PinkDrive breast cancer is a leading cause of death for many South African women. The country has a high mortality rate in comparison with other countries and this is attributed to a lack of accessibility to health care centres or screening sites, cultural beliefs and stigma, as well as lack of resources within the public sector, amongst other factors.

As part of the organisation’s response those behind the PinkDrive initiative have mobilised education trucks and mobile mammography units to generate awareness and provide services to women.

The initiative is reliant upon support from corporate sponsors to continue its operations.

Accsys has a long, proven track record of support for women and their role in helping to develop South African society.

Management at the company views its participation in the PinkDrive and national Breast Cancer awareness campaign as an important step in the rollout of its social responsibility program and a very direct, focused forum for community education to help fight this disease.

“We are very pleased to be a part of this campaign,” says Teryl Schroenn, CEO at Accsys. “Breast cancer affects so many women and their families every year, and, as we understand it, early detection can make a substantial difference to help combating the cancer and preventing its spread. Businesses in South Africa are encouraged to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to people’s wellbeing. The Record attempt adds a fresh and exciting dimension to this cause and is an important incentive to secure commitment and contribution.”
