Sacramento Boutique Hotel Promoting Local Artists & Green Lodging

The Greens Hotel uses local art and eco-friendly operations to lower costs without sacrificing quality

Dec. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- Tucked away in a historic neighborhood near downtown Sacramento, The Greens Hotel proudly displays paintings, sculptures, and other pieces by emerging artists. Besides promoting local talent, the hotel also supports green and efficient operations, resulting in lower operating costs that translate into some of Sacramento’s lowest rates for quality lodging.

With an established niche in the local boutique hotel market, The Greens continues to build a loyal following of guests, ranging from international visitors, to business travelers, to artist and photographers. All 26 rooms are “numbered” from A to Z, and each room is uniquely decorated using original artwork, and modern furniture from a northern California design studio. Complimentary amenities include cotton robes, down-filled comforters, and all-natural toiletries. A one-bedroom suite and a three-bedroom cottage are also available by request.

Rick Lahkar, The Greens Hotel general manager, says the property has maintained a high-quality atmosphere while reducing costs through green building and operations.

“We’ve updated the hotel so it’s more energy efficient,” said Lahkar, “and we utilize a chic yet very simple design to streamline cleaning, maintenance, and overall service. Our partnership with local artists and other vendors also helps us deliver a very unique and pleasant experience for a fraction of what other hotels may charge.”

The hotel uses only non-toxic products for housekeeping, and the grounds feature indigenous landscaping to conserve water and minimize maintenance needs. Modern sculptures are placed throughout the garden and patio areas, which are gated and surrounded by large trees, creating a lush, hidden get-away, just minutes from downtown.

The Greens Hotel Manager Yvonne Ahokovi adds that while keeping costs low is important, guest comfort and safety always come first, and the staff sincerely enjoys serving its diverse clientele.

Area photographer Jim Parks, who has stayed at the Greens on five separate occasions, said “As a photographer and artist I appreciate the thought that went to decorating both the grounds and the rooms to showcase local artists’ work. The courtyards and pool are perfect for unwinding, the rooms are quiet, the bedding is superior, and the staff is extremely accommodating. I recommend The Greens to everyone I know.”

Lahkar says the hotel has been impacted by the recession like most local businesses, and strategies such as $50 room nights have helped keep rooms filled, while personalized services, such as providing pet beds upon request, keeps guests coming back. He says consistently high ratings on TripAdvisor and other travel sites have also helped the hotel stand out from other lodging providers.

The Greens Hotel is located at 1700 Del Paso Boulevard, Sacramento, CA. For more information about the hotel and its amenities, please visit www.thegreenshotel.com, or call 916-921-1736.
