Catalent Vice President Shares Lean Business Practice Expertise At AME Conference

Dec. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- Research Triangle Park, NC – Kent M. Payne, Ph. D., Vice President and General Manager of Respiratory, Analytical and Biotechnology at Catalent Pharma Solutions, presented “Visualizing Customer Delivery” at the 26th Annual Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, November 15-19, 2010.  The annual conference is designed to help champion the exchange of knowledge in organizational excellence achieved with “Lean” thinking among today’s practitioners.

Dr. Payne’s presentation provided attendees an overview of the key principles of a “Lean” visual management model applied to an R&D setting, focusing on internal processes and customer service.  He shared the importance of establishing a daily rhythm, continually and vigilantly managing a lean system in the workplace.  To help illustrate this business model, Dr. Payne provided a case study detailing how Catalent implemented its own “Lean System for Managing” at its Research Triangle Park site in North Carolina.  

As the Vice President and General Manager for Respiratory, Analytical and Biotechnology at Catalent, Dr. Payne is in charge of the financial and sales responsibilities for the development services within Catalent.  Prior to joining Catalent, Dr. Payne was vital in developing the Pharmaceutical Development outsourcing business within Cardinal Health, a Fortune 19 company. He also worked for the Novartis Institute for biomedical research and at G.D. Searle as an associate fellow.  He currently serves as the board chairman for PDS Biotechnology Corporation.
