Nov. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Mark and Diane Weisbeck, the husband and wife international award winning sculptors, the only artists in the world to represent New York State in the Beijing Olympics, announce the installation of "Blast Off!" a 13 foot tall textured stainless steel “blasting off” rocket sculpture, recently installed in front of the Cradle of Aviation Museum, Garden City, New York, USA.

Referencing the early rocket designs of Dr. Robert Goddard, to create “Blast Off!” Weisbeck hand textured the stainless steel in swirling patterns, giving the impression of movement and voluminous exhaust plumes. The rocket is powder coated metallic blue with gold fins. In the bright sunlight the sculpture is dazzling and truly majestic. The Weisbeck’s “Blast Off!” rocket sculpture honors the history and future of the aviation and aerospace industries and is perfectly situated as the signature sculpture in front of  the incredible Cradle of Aviation Museum, which celebrates the history of aviation on Long Island, New York. The rocket was installed on November 6, 2010. Due to the immense popularity of this rocket sculpture, replica desktop sculptures have been created for aviation enthusiasts as well as achievement awards.

Mark and Diane Weisbeck have won many international public art commissions, as well as being the only artists in the world the represent both New York and the United States in the Beijing Olympics Landscape Sculpture Competition, winning the prestigious “Excellent Works Award. “In 2008, the Weisbecks installed “Water Spirits,” a 32 foot tall, two and a half ton, brass, waterfront sculpture in Rochester, New York commissioned by the New York State Department of State. “Water Spirits” stands as the gateway sculpture to the city. In 2004, the Weisbecks were commissioned by the New York State Department of Transportation to create “Bridge Flowers,” twelve light sculptures for the pylons of three consecutive bridges along the I-490 Highway in New York. In 2000, the Weisbecks won the International Sculpture Symposium in Changchun, China.

The Weisbeck’s sculptures stand around the globe. They have won awards for modern product design as well as public and private sculpture. Visit artandaccessoriesbyweisbeck.com for more information.
