December 27   Sugar (2008) U.S./Dominican Republic, Rated R; Subtitles

Food, Inc. is a an Academy Award-nominated documentary that “lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies …” Jean Baer, co-founder of the Sanibel Farmers' Market, Carol Simontacchi, owner of Island Nutrition Center, and representatives from local farms, will speak and host a question and answer following the film.
The Maid, a Golden Globe-nominated drama about Latin America’s class gap, as experienced from the near-bottom looking up, won prizes for Best Foreign Feature and Best Actress at Sundance.
Based in real theatrical history, the romantic Me and Orson Wells is set in 1930’s New York City, and stars Zac Efron, Christian McKay, and Clare Danes. Roger Ebert praised the film as “one of the best films about the theater that I have ever seen.”
Sugar was an official selection screened at the Sundance Film Festival and was chosen as “One of the Top Ten of 2008” by the American Film Institute. It presents a side of the baseball world that is rarely seen, as it tells the story of a poor boy from the Dominican Republic who goes to Iowa to play in the minor leagues.
Enhanced by surround sound, films will be shown in the comfort of Schein Performance Hall, with a high-definition projection system and large screen to provide a superb cinematic presentation. Listening devices are available for the hearing impaired.
General Admission is $7, or purchase a Film Booklet of 13 tickets for $91. Film Booklet holders must be seated no later than 6:45 p.m. to ensure a seat. All Monday Night films begin at 7 p.m.
