ArtisTech Media Signs Serbian Artist Petar Alargic

Next Gen Label Demonstrates the Collaborative Power of Non-Exclusive Deals
Nov. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Next Gen music label Artistech Media is pleased to announce it has just signed ambient/electronica artist Petar Alargic, and is today releasing his album Ambitronika as a TuneTrack-LP.  Born in 1983, Mr. Alargic’s unique sonic work as a writer, live performer, guitarist and producer has garnered him fans around the world – and now, two music deals in the United States.  Having just signed non-exclusive deals with labels ArtisTech Media and Magnatune, Mr. Alargic boldly demonstrates the new, central position of a next-gen artist  – he retains ownership and control of his works, and forms equal partnerships with the labels he chooses.

“I’m standing tall today, overwhelmed by pride and excitement for being embraced by and becoming an official member of ArtisTech Media and Magnatune -- two labels with a modern vision for independent music,” Mr. Alargic commented.  “These labels provide artists with all the freedom they crave -- freedom to collaborate, freedom to remain open to multiple labels, and yet, ensure artists retain the rights and control of their own works. These are labels with a vision."

“We’re thrilled to work with Petar in musical partnership. His songs are like paintings of sound,” remarked Emily Richards, CEO and co-founding artist of ArtisTech Media. “Petar explores technology and music as a pair, both creatively and from a music business perspective.  His visionary understanding of the future of music has earned him the first artist deal we’ve signed outside of southern California.”

ArtisTech Media, the company that operates, is following the footsteps of next-gen label Magnatune, in creating partnerships with artists, signing non-exclusive contracts, and releasing site content under Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Creative Commons licenses, thereby allowing listeners to share without being criminalized.

Mr. Alargic found his way to ArtisTech Media via, where he sought musical collaboration via pellas and other samples contributed by the community under varying Creative Commons licenses.  Creative Commons licenses give musicians freedom to share and collaborate with other artists, and also facilitate musical conversations with and among their fans., the most prominent experiment in free music culture, began in 2004 with a series of remix contests hosted by Creative Commons in conjunction with Wired Magazine featuring The Beastie Boys, David Byrne and other innovative musicians.  Lawrence Lessig, founding board member of Creative Commons, says of ccMixter: “The first important thing about Creative Commons is that it’s artist based.  It’s artists who choose what freedoms they’re going to give people when it comes to access to their work.”
