Nov. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Florida is a place know as one of the entertainment capitals of the world and is also a place where you can soak up the sun's ray on the beach.  But it is also a place that is home to one of the wetlands that contains over 10,000 islands that are inhabited by a species whether its human or an animal.  This is called the Everglades and it is a place that mainly put on their plan to visit when going to Florida.  The Everglades are known as a patch of wetlands that have been a part of the southern region of Florida for many decades.  This wet patch of land starts off in near the southern southern region of Orlando as part of the Kissimmee River and ends near the Florida Bay.

One of the best ways to get through the Everglades is by an Airboat.  These are also known as fan boats mainly due to the fact that they have a huge aircraft propeller on the back of the boats.  The propeller is encased by a cage that was put on to stop foreign objects like branches, clothing and other things that could damage the propeller/boat or cause danger to the people on the boat.  These boats can not go in reverse and don't have any brakes.  So in order to steer you boat you have to be a good Airboat pilot.  These are the easily forms of transport through the Everglades as they glide through the waters with little to no problem.  These boats are also perfect for flood and ice rescue scenarios.  Many tour companies use Airboats for their tours as they are a cheap means of way to travel around the Everglades and can carry quite a few people, also add to the fact that the boats are elevated which means everyone can get a good look especially the pilot.

Although it is known as a wetland and one feature of it is synonymous with the Everglades is the Sawgrass.  This is the green grass like plants that grow in the water that have lead many to call the Everglades the river of grass, even though the plant itself isn't actually a grass.  It is in fact a sedge, and is one of the oldest plants species on the planet.  Also Sawgrass grows in patches rather than continuously like grass.  The thing about the plant though is that because of the little sharp saw like teeth nature of the grass it can actually cut so it isn't recommended  to try to walk through it or even grab it especially while travelling as it will give you a good idea why it is called Sawgrass.

In the Everglades there are loads of animals that have settled in the watery marshes, but there are two animals that are heavily linked and well known for residing in the Everglades and they are Alligators and Crocodiles.  People often get confused with Alligators and Crocodiles, they are both considered to be at the top of the food chain that shows that they these lizard shaped reptiles are considered the dominate species in the Everglades  What many people wonder is what is the difference between the two?  Well there are many differences between the alligators and crocodiles.  For one thing they both come from different families of crocdilians, the crocs are from the crocodylidae family and gators are from the alligatoridae family.  An easy way to tell the difference between the two is to look at their snout, now this may be something you don't want to do but  it is one of the best ways to distinguish them.  Crocs have long and narrow V shaped snouts which are suited to eating fish and other smallish mammals while gators have snouts that are wide and U shaped, Gators snouts are powerful enough to crush turtles shell and all, which they like to feast upon.  These two animals are one of the main reasons why tourists want to go to the Everglades also add to the fact that Miami beach condos are practically just a few minutes away, they could see the best of both worlds.

The Everglades have their own charm though which is why people put it right next the theme parks and beaches.  You can see animals that you may not see anywhere else and them being in their natural habitat can't be replaced or even replicated no matter how much the nearby zoo or nature preserves try.
