Energion Publications Announces New Academic Book Category

Nov. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Energion Publications is pleased to announce the addition of a special category for academic books to their growing catalog.  This will showcase books that advance scholarship while continuing the mission of Energion Publications.

To edit this new line of books we have chosen two distinguished writers and editors, David Alan Black, Professor of Greek and New Testament at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Allan R. Bevere, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Cambridge, Ohio and adjunct Professional Fellow in Theology at Ashland Theological Seminary.  They currently edit the Areopagus Critical Christian Issues Series.

The Energion Publications mission “... is to use web and print publishing to educate Christian laity and clergy, to energize the whole church to commitment and action, and to empower all members of the body of Christ to be effective witnesses for Jesus.”
In our general Christian book categories, we accomplish this mission by publishing books that will challenge the broad Christian center. By the “broad Christian center” we mean that large group of Christians who are willing to work together with one another despite disagreement on non-essentials, who are interested in genuine dialog and learning, who seek sound teaching and understanding, yet are too often left to drift.  We also believe that Christianity is best served by a well-informed people, capable of defending their faith and also of challenging their leadership. The church is not an organization of professional ministers, but all are ministers.

Our academic category (http://energionpubs.com/academic-books) will support and expand this mission by offering quality scholarly books that address issues of interest to the Christian community at a reasonable price.  We will leverage our business model, which emphasizes tight inventory control, to allow us to offer low volume titles along with aggressive development of various ebook formats.  This combination can bring great academic books to readers at affordable prices.

Besides books that are explicitly Christian, our academic category will seek books that deal with interfaith issues of interest to Christians and those dealing with the biblical and theological backgrounds.

Books from our current catalog that will be included initially in the academic catalog include Why Four Gospels?, Finding My Way in Christianity: Recollections of a Journey, God’s Desire for the Nations: The Missionary Theology of John Piper, Christian Archy, and Ultimate Allegiance: The Subversive Nature of the Lord’s Prayer

About the editors:

David Alan Black holds a doctorate in theology from the University of Basel in Switzerland and has taught New Testament and Greek for over 30 years. He is also the editor of the popular website, Dave Black Online. He has published over 20 books, including The Jesus Pardiagm, Christian Archy, The Myth of Adolescence, Interpreting the New Testament, It's Still Greek to Me, and Why Four Gospels? He and his wife live on a 123-acre working farm in southern Virginia and are self-supporting missionaries to Ethiopia, which they visit twice each year.

Allan R. Bevere is the pastor of First United Methodist Church in Cambridge, Ohio and a Professional Fellow in Theology at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio. He received his Ph.D from the University of Durham, U.K. He has written three books, Sharing in the Inheritance: Identity and the Moral Life in Colossians, The Character of Our Discontent, and All Is Not as It Seems: Random Reflections on Faith, Ethics, and Politics,  and is currently working on several more. He has published sermons and has contributed articles to a Bible Dictionary. Bevere engages in a teaching mission in Cuba with the Methodist Church.
