Know Your Ancestors: Trace Your African Roots

When African-American think of their ancestry, they think about the continent of Africa, but they don't know where. African-American have a particular interest in understanding genealogy due to their history. Heritage Connection promotes the study and preservation of family history.

African-Americans have a difference history than any of the other American groups due to their enslavement experience.  Heritage Connection has a two hour Genealogy workshop with six session that covers; Gathering oral History and family records, research your family to 1850 and beyond, Identify the last slave owner, explore service and pension records, record veteran's oral history, explore the census record, learn how to weight evidence. Each of us has stories we pass, like heirlooms from generation to generation. The stories we tell connects our families, our past and our hopes for the future.
