Nov. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- The 15 November 2010 - Volume 35 - Issue 24 issue of Spine features a case report co-authored by Houston's own Greg Green, DC. The title of the article is, "Uterine Fibroid Mimicking Lumbar Radiculopathy: A Case Report." The article details a case where a patient had the classic symptoms of sciatica such as radiating pain in the lower extremities, but did not respond to conservative care.

The patient was sent for imaging after the initial trial of chiropractic care. The MRI revealed a large uterine fibroid that was pressing against the lumbo-sacral plexus of nerves. The patient became symptom free following a hysterectomy.

Dr. Green co-authored the paper with Donald Murphy, DC, and Mark Bender, DC. Dr Murphy is especially well known in the academic circles of chiropractic campuses as he publishes multiple articles a year. Some schools have begun to use Dr. Murphy's diagnosis based clinical decision rule as a pillar of their clinical protocol when it comes to diagnosing and treating patients. Both Dr. Bender and Dr. Green did ten week internships with Dr. Murphy at the Rhode Island Spine Center where Dr. Murphy is the clinic director.

"This is an honor, because not only am I being published in Spine, which is one of the most prestigious journals of its kind," said Dr. Green,"but I also got to share the honor with Dr. Murphy and Dr. Bender. I have great respect for both of them. It's truly an honor to see all of our names together at the top of the article."

Dr. Green also has the unique credit of having done the illustration featured in the article. "It's an illustration of the anatomy discussed in the article. I have an art background, so when Spine requested an illustration I got to work. I had a lot of fun doing it," said Green in a recent interview.

Recognized internationally as the leading journal in its field, Spine is an international, peer-reviewed, bi-weekly periodical that considers for publication original articles in the field of Spine. It is the leading subspecialty journal for the treatment of spinal disorders. Only original papers are considered for publication with the understanding that they are contributed solely to Spine. The Journal does not publish articles reporting material that has been reported at length elsewhere.
