Mid America Motorworks To Host Boy Scouts Of America Leadership Breakfast

Lincoln Trails Council of Boy Scouts of America Leadership Breakfast hosted by Mid America Motorworks. Breakfast will include presentations and raise funds for Boy Scout programs and camp construction.

Nov. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Effingham, Ill. – Join Mid America Motorworks and the Lincoln Trails Council of Boy Scouts of America for a Leadership Breakfast Friday, Dec. 3 at 7:15 a.m. at Mid America Motorworks’ café. The breakfast will last one hour and feature a presentation by current Eagle Scout, Michael Weber. Weber has earned more than 100 of the 125 merit badges available to Boy Scouts. He has challenged himself to earn all 125 badges before he turns 18 in three months.

The Leadership Breakfast will also include a presentation on the basics of scouting, as well as a request for donations to benefit local troops. Effingham County is home to 500 Boy Scouts. Approximately 75 percent of those boys are active scouts, meeting weekly and participating in Troop Outings, Outdoor Leadership Training and fundraisers. As a recent fundraiser, the Boy Scouts assisted with parking during the 2010 Corvette Funfest on Mid America Motorworks’ corporate campus.

“We often say the best kept secret in scouting is that it’s educational,” said Doug Zaring, Two Rivers District Senior Executive. “We’re teaching boys values, character, morals and leadership. We just use the outdoors as a classroom for those lessons.”

Donations raised during the Leadership Breakfast will support the Two Rivers District by funding construction projects for the camp and rebuilding the general fund.  Effingham County scouts demonstrate their enthusiasm for the program through their achievements. Nearly 10 percent of local scouts achieve Eagle Scout status, well above the national average of 2 percent.

“Every Eagle Scout I’ve ever met has a clear view of where they want to go in life. They have a distinct ability to set – and attain – goals,” said Mike Yager, Chief Cheerleader of Mid America Motorworks.

Several notable men have been Boy Scouts, including 11 of the 12 men who have walked on the moon (2 of them were Eagle Scouts) and five presidents. Nearly half of the leaders in Fortune 500 companies were once Boy Scouts. Eight members of the Mid America Motorworks team are former Boy Scouts.

Two Rivers District includes Effingham, Fayette, Moultrie, Shelby and Christian counties. If you are unable to attend the Leadership Breakfast, but would like to make a donation, please submit the attached form. This year marks the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts of America. Founder Lord Baden Powell wanted scouts to be “fun with a purpose.” A goal that pairs well with Mid America Motorworks’ philosophy of pursuing automotive passion.
