Follow on Google News | The Snoring Murders - People around the Globe are Killed because of SnoringIn a shocking review, numerous intentional deaths have been linked to snoring, with the victim usually being the one with the irritating habit. It appears that in addition to the medical risks of sleep apnea, sufferers are often victims of crime.
By: Michael Zuk DDS *According to a news story in the Calgary Sun reported by Kevin Martin, a man irritated by another man’s snoring in a homeless shelter led to a fist fight which resulted in the death of the man who was allegedly snoring. This incident occurred on Feb. 18, 2008 at a drop-in shelter for the homeless. *In a separate incident reported in China a university student stabbed his roommate to death because of snoring in the spring of 2010. The murderer was sentenced to death. The 24 year old prisoner was sentenced to life for the murder of the 22 year old snorer. Sadly the victim was in jail for a relatively minor offense of stealing from the family home to support his heroin habit. This time the snoring guest allegedly beat the woman’s husband to death. http://www.highbeam.com/ *A woman killed her boyfriend in South Carolina because of snoring. It is easier for health professionals to sign patients up for a sleep study than it is to get them into a life changing weight control program,” says Dr. Zuk. He explains, “In my own situation, when I gained 10 pounds from a daily visit to the mall food court I began to snore too…it scared the hell out of me and dropping the weight with a revised diet and exercise my problem was solved. Being killed by a spouse over snoring may make the news but it's not my idea of good publicity!” Sleep study clinics determine the risk levels associated with snoring for individuals and determine if they have sleep apnea (where they actually stop breathing). Snorers often have dangerous sleep apnea which is associated with higher death rates, but not all people with the serious form actually snore. However as you can see snoring can increase death rates by murder! Treatment: Dentists can fabricate appliances that reposition the lower jaw to open up the airways and reduce the problem, there are special sleeping masks that force air into a person’s lungs, and there is surgery that may be necessary. “I disagree with the general way people with snoring problems are treated... we need to find a way to effectively work together with medically supervised weight control centers…losing weight needs to become fun. The treatment depends on the diagnosis so it is best to seek advice from medical specialists that specialize in this area but people need to do their part to ensure the best results... there is an elephant in the room, and unfortunately it's often the patient,” says Dr. Zuk. # # # Michael Zuk DDS is the author of the book 'Confessions of a Former Cosmetic Dentist' which explores the reasons why aggressive aesthetic dental care, in the form of Extreme Smile Makeovers, may exploit patients and damage healthy teeth. Dr. Zuk refers patients with snoring disorders to another dental practitioner. His book website may be found at http://www.confessionsofaformercosmeticdentist.com End
