Nov. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Isha Foundation observed World Diabetes Day on November 14th at the Isha Yoga Center in the Velliangiri foothills by illuminating the Dhyanalinga Temple Complex in blue. In an effort to raise awareness among the fifteen thousand daily visitors to the temple, the Trimurthy Panel and the Sarva Dharma Stambha were lit up in blue light. The blue circle is the global symbol for diabetes. Across cultures, the circle symbolizes life and health and the color blue reflects the sky that unites all nations. The theme for this year’s World Diabetes Day is “Diabetes Education and Prevention.” Through its pioneering social initiative Action for Rural Rejuvenation (ARR), Isha Foundation conducted diabetes screening in rural areas across Tamil Nadu at its Isha Rural Health Clinics (IRHCs) and through its 21 Mobile Health Clinics (MHCs). These camps also provided information and raised awareness about diabetes symptoms and other chronic ailments among rural people through specially designed short films, posters and stickers.

Over the years, ARR has conducted over 1500 health camps for diabetes screening in rural Tamil Nadu. In addition to providing free treatment for diabetic patients on a regular basis, ARR also conducts Yoga Marga residential camps for diabetic patients using alternate systems of treatment. Over 5000 people have benefited from these initiatives. People are also advised on maintaining healthy diets to prevent chronic ailments such as diabetes.

ARR is a multi-dimensional program with a holistic approach towards improving the overall health and quality of life of the rural poor. ARR is not just about giving the rural people economic or administrative help, it seeks to transform the life of the rural poor. ARR has reached more than 4600 villages, serving a population of over 7 million people.
Isha Foundation is a non-religious, public service organization founded by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev – a realized master and yogi, which addresses all aspects of human wellbeing. It is an entirely volunteer-run, nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating human potential. Isha Outreach is the social development branch of the Isha Foundation. Its central vision is to empower the deprived sections of India towards improved health, education and environmental well being. The three vehicles of Isha Outreach are Project Green Hands (PGH), Action for Rural Rejuvenation (ARR) and Isha Vidhya, which provide an interconnected and comprehensive approach to transform the lives of the rural poor.
