Nov. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Camp Hill, PA - Sunbury Press, the publisher of "Grognard", has selected two mental health charities as the recipients of profits from the sale of the book now linked to the brutal murder of Nancy Bruneau in Hollywood, Florida.

"Earlier this month, on November 4, we announced the suspension of sales of the book "Grognard" by Patrick Quere out of respect for the Bruneau family," said Lawrence Knorr, the publisher. "At the time, we also mentioned our intent to evaluate releasing the book again at some point in tandem with our advocacy for mental health awareness. During this past week, the author and publisher have received overwhelming sympathy and support for continuing to sell the book. During this time, we, at Sunbury Press, have deliberated on the best course of action under these difficult circumstances."

During recent interviews with the press, Knorr mentioned three possibilities regarding the situation with Quere, Beau Bruneau (the alleged murderer) and the book:

1) The similarity between the murder described in the book and the murder of Nancy Bruneau is a coincidence.
2) Beau Bruneau really did "copy cat" the book - or at least tried to.
3) The author is involved in some way.

Knorr told the Miami Herald he believed the first two options are by far the most likely. According to reports, Quere is not a person of interest in the murder - Beau Bruneau confessed to the crime and is currently in prison. Quere claims he shared the manuscript with his friend, Beau Bruneau, before it was published. Quere believes Bruneau 'copy-catted' a scene from his book.

"The question for us, then, was whether or not to continue publishing," said Knorr. "Given the circumstances, and our belief the author was not involved with the murder, we feel the book should remain in print. Regardless of which of the three possibilities is true, this is a mental health issue, and our awareness has been elevated. Our hope is to turn this situation into a positive force for mental health. To that end, we have selected two charities to be the beneficiaries of profits from this book."

The National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD)
http://www.narsad.org/

From their website:
NARSAD raises money from donors around the world and invests it directly in the most promising research projects in mental health.

We help the best and brightest scientific minds unravel the complexities of schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders such as PTSD and OCD and childhood disorders that include autism and ADHD.  We continue to support them as they develop the next generation of diagnostics and treatments.

Thanks to the thousands of donors who have shared in this effort since 1987, NARSAD has awarded more than $261 million. It has funded 3,832 research grants for nearly 3,132 scientists at over 494 universities, institutions and teaching hospitals in the U.S. and 28 other countries.

Every dollar donated to NARSAD goes directly to research--100% of all donations--as two private family foundations generously underwrite all operating expenses.  With enough effort, NARSAD expects scientists someday to discover  preventions and cures for these devastating illnesses.
