Latest Weapon In The Fight to Prevent Migraine Headaches
Long-time classic migraine sufferers can now benefit from a specially designed device based on the research of Harvard neurologist, Dr Stuart A Lipton. Safe and effective, the device targets headaches and accompanying symptoms before they begin.
The Auracol, a successfully tested device to prevent classic migraine headaches, avoids drug therapy, which makes it safe to use during pregnancy and provides an alternative treatment for those who cannot or choose not to take conventional migraine medications, such as the Triptans and Ergotamines.
Weighing just over 2 ounces (60 grams) and consisting of light, durable materials, the Auracol works by exerting a constant pressure to the Superficial Temporal Arteries throughout the entire aura phase, stopping the imminent headache dead in its tracks and alleviating debilitating symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light.
To be effective, this technique must be started at the first sign of the visual aura and continued until the aura has completely subsided.
The Auracol’s method of treatment is backed up by research conducted by Harvard neurologist, Dr Stuart Lipton, MD, Ph.D. In his publication, Annals of Neurology, 1986; 19(5): 515, Dr Lipton describes the result of his research whereby classic migraine headache pain is prevented by digital massage of the superficial temporal arteries.
Dr Lipton reports that patients who suffer from migraine preceded by visual auras - or classic migraine - could prevent these incapacitating headaches by vigorously exerting pressure on, and massaging the Temporal Arteries by using the middle and index fingers.
Doctor Lipton’s technique, which he calls Digital Massage, successfully treats all patients 81 percent of the time (34 out of 42 attacks) click here for Lipton’s article
Since his article on classic migraine appeared in the Annals of Neurology, Dr Lipton notes, that if the technique is carried out correctly and the pressure is applied to exactly the right area and as soon as the aura begins, the success rate jumps to nearly 90 percent.
The device was first presented at the 12th Congress of the International Headache Society in Kyoto in October, 2005
