If oysters truly are an aphrodisiac, consider Osetra, San Diego’s Cupid. The Downtown, 5th Avenue location, beckons good-looking professionals and out-of- towners that appreciate a seafood menu that appeals to a diverse audience. Osetra’s sophisticated cuisine, polished staff, and refreshing approach to dining, make it the best restaurant to stroke San Diego’s sensibilities in ages. Osetra’s Downtown digs is one more mouthwatering reason to head to San Diego’s hottest neighborhood and sets the scene for a modern, quintessential Seafood fare. The sleek décor has an ice bar, chic lounge, and a three-story high ceiling with a wine tower that holds an extensive wine collection that comes with “wine angels” that are hoisted to fetch the impressive wines. The menu offers the ultimate in seafood that can only be found at Osetra. I started my tasting with the luxury food, Caviar (American Hackleback Sturgeon) that was Appointed with crostini, bellini, capers, crème fraiche, egg yolk, egg white, chives and red onion. Then moved into Tre Carpaccio that included Ahi Tuna, salmon, LIVE scallops, served with the “chef’s sauce” that is prepared daily. This dish was light, fresh and delicious. The next dish served by owner Alessandro Minutella was the Seafood Napoleon. The layers of lump crab, spicy tuna and guacamole drizzled with wasabi oil was an artful combination that was amazing to say the least. The perfect accompaniment to the Seafood Napoleon was the main entrée, Ahi Tuna -- Cajun crusted and pan seared, and served with wasabi mashed potatoes and finished in a crispy ginger soy sauce reduction topped with tobiko caviar. Osetra is the perfect seafood dining experience and the “bar” isn’t to be missed either --- $1.00 fresh daily oyster special and $7.00 infused Vodka Martinis EVERYDAY (except Saturday) from 5pm to 7pm. Osetra is located at 904 Fifth Avenue (Downtown San Diego) www.OsetraFishHouse.com. Tel: 619-239-1800.
