Author Releases Zombie Apocalypse Novel, Offers Signed Copies and other Rewards for Pledges thro

A zombie horror author is utilizing Kickstarter to raise funds to cover the costs of publishing his novel, and he is offering rewards - signed copies, electronic copies with signature letters, and other rewards - to pledges to support the effort.

Nov. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- The Dying Times, a new novel about the trials and tribulations of a group of survivors in a land filled with the living dead, has been released by author Brian Kittrell under the Late Nite Books imprint on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and others. The author has also begun crusading for additional funding to give the project that special finishing touch by using a fund-raising-for-rewards service known as Kickstarter.

Everyone is taking notice of the popularity of the zombie genre. The release of Resident Evil: Afterlife brought with it a $273 million dollar gain for the series, and AMC's new original series The Walking Dead snagged a personal record to the tune of 5.3 million viewers for the pilot on Halloween, 2010, with a total of 11 million viewers for all airings that night. "Zombies are hot," said Kittrell, author of The Dying Times. "It's a genre that has seen its ups and downs, but people are now starting to pay attention. The subject is beginning to develop some real maturity and mass acceptance."

The book has made quite a few sales through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and others which will help with funding, but the author has decided to offer special perks for anyone who wants to get involved. "There are many times that I wish I had signed copies of books and other memorabilia for novels that I love, but the opportunities are few and far between," Kittrell said. "I wanted to give fans the opportunity to easily and quickly get the kind of keepsakes that are hard to come by with this project, along with generating some operating funds."

Some of the book's early success has been attributed to five star reviews and other positive critiques. "I have been told on numerous occasions that this is a book that could be read and enjoyed by anyone, not just zombie fans. When the story is top notch, people enjoy it, regardless of the subject matter. I may have even created a few zombie fans with the novel, which is a very rewarding prospect to me personally," Kittrell said.

Through Kickstarter, individuals are able to make pledges to projects in order to help the creators of those projects reach their funding goals. The pledges come with rewards direct from the producers of the project, and often include signed books or materials, gifts and keepsakes, and memorabilia as a thank you to project supporters.

"It is far from a charity service," Kittrell explained. "People aren't just throwing money at someone and getting nothing; supporters receive a 'Thank You' in the form of very real and tangible rewards that can and often do become more valuable than the original pledge's cost."

The Dying Times has around 30 days to raise its intended goal of $500, and the project can be found on Kickstarter's website (http://www.kickstarter.com) by searching for "The Dying Times".
