Pierce To Dance With Sinatra In Vegas

Nov. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Emmy-award winning Vancouver Olympic composer Dave Pierce will soon reunite with the classic talents of  “Ole Blue Eyes” to bring SINATRA Dance With Me to Wynn Las Vegas. Pierce will lend his music arranging and supervising talents to the new 80-minute show, along with the creative team from Twyla Tharp’s celebrated Broadway hit Come Fly With Me.

SINATRA Dance With Me follows four couples who fall in and out of love in a music-filled nightclub. Conceived, choreographed and directed by Tharp, 14 dancers will express Sinatra’s music via recorded masters (by special arrangement with Frank Sinatra Enterprises and The Sinatra Family) backed by a 17-piece on-stage big band. In addition to the beloved classic standards, Pierce will be adding his original orchestrations to the show.

“Working with the great choreographer Twyla Tharp would be enough of a thrill, but add in the music of Frank Sinatra and I'm left walking into my writing studio everyday pinching myself,” said Pierce. “Sinatra is one of the great icons who has touched the world through his emotional vocal delivery of the great American songs.  The wonderful Sinatra music arrangers like Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Quincy Jones that worked on his music (and long before me) shaped the way music sounds today.   I love getting the chance to breath fresh life into iconic sounds, and this time I’m doing it My Way!”

Best known for his fresh and broad approach to orchestral writing, Pierce is no stranger to working with great talents.  Pierce recently won the Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, where he arranged music performed Michael Bublé Bryan Adams, Joni Mitchell and more.

“Working on a project with my friend Michael Bublé, we would listen to recordings of Frank Sinatra together, and the whole time I would dream of being like the great music leaders and arrangers Sinatra had behind him,” continued Pierce. “It's such a creative high to work on a project as large as The Olympics. To have my music recognized by winning an Emmy was an unreal experience, it would almost leave a guy wondering what to do next unless you get to work with Twyla Tharp and the music of Frank Sinatra. Add in Wynn Hotel, one of the world's greatest, and it helps make the last year seem surreal.”

SINATRA Dance With Me will open for a limited run at Wynn Las Vegas on Dec. 11, 2010, the day before Sinatra’s 95th birthday, and will perform Monday-Saturday in the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas

Emmy award winner Dave Pierce is as comfortable conducting a 100-piece live studio orchestra as he is producing a midi-score using computers and samplers. Critically acclaimed across all musical genres for his ability to wear many musical hats, and streamline large-scale productions with great efficiency, Pierce’s style ranges from big band to cinematic-infused, modern scores.

Pierce’s scores were most recently heard in the Opening, Medals and Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, which were viewed by a world wide television audience of 3.5 billion people. As the Music Director and Composer for the Vancouver Olympic Games, Pierce chose and shaped all of the Games’ music elements. Pierce has orchestrated music for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Concert Tour and Jesus Christ Superstar Gospel; Broadway’s Come Fly With Me, a celebration of Frank Sinatra’s music and dance under the direction of legendary Twyla Tharp; and in 2005, Pierce was commissioned to compose a new work for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
