Nov. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- NORCROSS, Georgia – November 23, 2010 – Ashworth College (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu) today announced that Glen Davis, a father and military veteran from Waxhaw, NC is the recipient of a Project Working Mom and Dad 2010 full-tuition scholarship. Davis will pursue a Business Management Associate Degree program at Ashworth College, an accredited online institution. His goal is to earn his degree and better serve as a role model for his wife and daughters.

Ashworth College is one of eight accredited online schools participating in Project Working Mom 2010. The program awarded more than 280 scholarships, totaling close to $5 million. Ashworth College is awarding 23 of those scholarships. This is the fourth cycle of Project Working Mom and the second time that Ashworth has participated. To date, Ashworth has awarded 21 scholarships through the program.

“An online degree program works best for my personal situation,” said Davis. “My teenage daughter suffers from depression. Although she is being treated by doctors and medication, as parents it is crucial that our time be spent helping her and being available as much as possible.”

“After serving 10 years in the military and several more years in the corporate arena, I regret not taking the time to complete my degree,” he explained. “Finding myself unemployed, I now understand what a critical mistake it was to not make the sacrifice. I’m looking forward to making the most of this opportunity to re-gain my self-worth and to become a role model for my wife and girls.”

“Participating in the Project Working Mom Scholarship Program has been a positive experience for Ashworth College,” said Dr. Leslie Gargiulo, Ashworth Vice President, Education. “It’s a great opportunity, through education, to help deserving, hard-working adults make a positive impact in their lives.”

“With the current economic climate, it is essential to have the greatest competitive advantage possible,” Gargiulo added. “Having a college degree or advanced training can set an employee or job seeker apart -- demonstrating business knowledge to peers, potential customers and current or future employers.”

Each of the Project Working Mom 2010 scholarship recipients will receive a full-tuition scholarship to pursue online education. Demonstrative of the need and demand among adults for education, the Project Working Mom programs have generated more than 616,000 applications for full-tuition scholarships from moms and dads who want to return to school.

“The announcement of this final round of scholarship recipients brings to a close a program that has forever changed more than 450 lives thanks to the generous support of our partner schools,” said Terrence Thomas, Executive Vice President of Marketing for eLearners.com, which created Project Working Mom. “Through this program we’ve helped eliminate barriers that have kept parents from going back to school and it’s been an honor to have been a part of the process.”
