Nov. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Brea, Calif. (November 8, 2010)--Web hosting provider DreamHost announced the beta implementation of Google's mod_pagespeed for its 250,000 customers Thursday through its blog.

“While Google is still ‘working with GoDaddy’ to roll this out across their entire customer base, today we’re announcing that DreamHost has enabled mod_pagespeed support for all DreamHost customers,” writes Brett Dunst, vice president of marketing and corporate communications at DreamHost, in the post.

Google released mod_pagespeed Wednesday as an open source module to increase load speeds on websites hosted on Apache web servers. On average, Google found that sites that had mod_pagespeed enabled would load up to 50 percent faster than those without it.

DreamHost began heavy testing of mod_pagespeed on private servers hours after its release. “We received a lot of inquiries from our customers on Twitter asking when and if we’d be implementing mod_pagespeed for our domains,” says DreamHost Founding Director Dallas Bethune. “In less than a day we were able to make mod_pagespeed available to the more than 1 million domains hosted with us.  Our customers can now access this speed upgrade immediately with no technical knowledge at all.”

DreamHost is encouraging its customers to take advantage of this new function and to share their experiences with others on the company’s blog at http://blog.dreamhost.com.
