Westwood, coping with a calf injury throughout the summer,(Callaway X-22 Left Irons) managed to play without a bogey on the weekend, and his 67 in the final round put him at 18-under 270, good enough to beat the rest of the field by nine shots.

The golf was at such a high level that neither player in the final group made a bogey.

SHIN WINS MIZUNO CLASSIC Top-ranked Jiyai Shin won the Mizuno Classic in Shima, Japan, for her second LPGA Tour victory of the season and eighth over all, (Callaway Diablo Edge Irons)closing with a five-under 67 for a two-stroke victory over Yani Tseng.

Shin finished at 18 under after opening with rounds of 65 and 66 on the Kintetsu Kashikojima course. Shin, a South Korean, also the 2008 tournament winner, earned $180,000 to increase her season total to $1,779,768 and pull within $3,535 of the leader, Na Yeon Choi, with two events left.

Tseng, from Taiwan, shot a 66.

Stacy Lewis (68) was third at 15 under, Miki Saiki (70) was 12 under, and Choi (68), Brittany Lincicome (65) and Mika Miyazato (68) followed at 11 under.

Shin birdied all four par 5s in her bogey-free final round.

Tseng leads the Japanese star Ai Miyazato by 2 points in the player of the year race. Miyazato, a five-time winner this season, (Callaway Diablo Forged Irons)followed her second-round 79 with a 68 to tie for 69th at three over, 21 strokes behind Shin.

COOK FINISHES WITH A WIN John Cook successfully defended his title in the Champions Tour’s season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Harding Park in San Francisco, (Callaway Diablo Edge Series )while Bernhard Langer took his first season points title.

Cook shot four-under-par 67, holing a 15-foot putt for par on the 18th hole to beat Michael Allen by two strokes.

Cook began the day a shot behind Allen, but birdied two of the first three holes to take the lead for good. Cook finished at 17 under and earned $440,000 for his fifth career victory on the 50-and-older tour.
