Nov. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Selling a business can be as difficult as running one, especially when it comes to putting a price tag on the company. To do it right, the business owner, CEO and CFO need to understand what drives value in the business – the very topic of an important new webinar sponsored by The Midmarket Institute on November 11, 2010 at 11 AM Eastern.

Many owners of midsize companies make the business their lives, and depend on its sale for their eventual retirement. The bad news is that earnings multipliers – the standard yardstick for pricing a company – have fallen 25 to 50 percent over the past two years in many industries.  The good news is that this will prove a catalyst for the many corporate buyers and private equity investors who have been watching the midmarket and waiting for the economy to bottom out.

Potential buyers of midsize companies are plentiful. M&A activity is already gathering momentum going into next year as the cash-rich companies start to expand and take advantage of the relatively cheap open market of companies up for sale.

The Midmarket Institute has brought together some of the foremost experts on valuing a company for acquisition. Speakers include Randy Shostag, founder of Minnesota Business Valuation Group and William T. Hass, CTP, former Chairman of the Turnaround Management Association and co-author with Dr. Arthur Laffer of THE PRIVATE EQUITY EDGE: How the World's Top Companies Build Value and Wealth,  published by McGraw-Hill (2009).

Middle company owners and executives will leave this webinar armed not only with the knowledge and insights they need but also with the tools, checklists and templates that the experts use to create a successful action plan for valuing a midsize business.

Midmarket company executives are urged to sign up early because participation is limited and available on a first-come basis. Registration by phone is available by calling The Midmarket Institute at 609-275-6300.

This webinar is the latest in our Midmarket Mergers & Acquisitions Series of weekly webinars for midsize company owners and executives.  Other webinars in the series are How Can You Increase the Value of Your Company Before You Sell?, scheduled for Wednesday, November 17, 2010 and Should You Sell or Hold Your Company NOW?, scheduled for Monday, November 22.  The webinar series will be followed by an all-day in-person workshop, How To Sell Your Company Fast for the Highest Value, on January 18, 2010 in Chicago.
