Local Author Writes Books that Boys Will Want to Read
A recent article in the New York Times highlighted a growing problem in America’s schools: the decline of reading skills among young boys.

The four books that Aronskind has written to date -- Summer Sleep Away, That Same Summer, Escape from Sunday School and The Celebrities of Summer School -- have all been born of the idea to write something that a boy will want to read.
Aronskind remembers what it was like to be a young boy: the challenges of grade school, making new friends, attending summer camp for the first time, having your first crush. By drawing on events from his own life, as well as on those of his three teenage sons, he has been able to vividly recreate a teenage boy’s most memorable experiences and adventures in his novels. The author explains, “With three teenage boys in my house (four if you include me), I have become a bit of an authority on what boys like. And when you think you know what boys like then oftentimes you can actually put it there in the books they read. That’s what I’ve tried to do with my writing.”
The formula seems to have worked. Aronskind has recently started to hear from parents whose boys have gotten “hooked” on his books. Some have even stayed up all night or spent the weekend finishing one of his books. For him, this is his true reward.
