AltaTerra Releases US Utility Solar Market Report

New report from AltaTerra Research finds new industry dynamics emerging as utility solar market takes off.

Nov. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- AltaTerra Research is pleased to announce the release of its highly-anticipated new report, “Utility Solar: U.S. Market Taking Off.” Electronic copies of the report are now available for purchase and download at www.AltaTerra.net.

The report provides an overview of the development of utility solar in the United States with installation data, profiles of all of the largest projects, and project case studies.

Among the key findings elaborated on in the report are the following:
•   The utility segment is now on a par with commercial and residential segments by volume and growing faster—by a factor of ten.
•   In 2010, the segment grew nearly 400 percent to a total of 251 megawatts (MW).
•   Utility solar is emerging as a distinct market, different from other segments in technology, geographic concentration, types of parties involved, regulatory drivers, and, crucially, challenges for project developers.

In the final section of the report, authors Jon Guice, Larry Sherwood, and Eric Paul present an outlook on two trends to watch.

“The creation of a utility customer base for solar power, more or less overnight, is one of the most important trends in renewable energy in North America,” said Guice, who is managing director of research at AltaTerra. “It also has important implications for consumers and businesses who want greener energy, and for the technology, finance, construction, and other companies that are building these massive solar farms.”

Companies mentioned in the report include: Florida Power & Light (FPL), Southern California Edison (SCE), American Electric Power, Exelon, JEA, Xcel, Progress Energy, Duke Energy, CPS Energy, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), NRG, PSEG Solar Source, Commonwealth Edison, SunPower, BlueChip Energy, SunEdison, Duke Energy Generation Services, Southern Company, Turner Renewable Energy, Sempra, First Solar, and juwi solar.
