Payment Protection Insurance Advertising To Be Targeted in FSA Clampdown

Nov. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is to revert on a previously laissez-faire attitude to companies advertising financial products. In another fight against the mis-selling of Payment Protection Insurance (PPI), the FSA is to form a dedicated team of 30 staff to monitor all radio, television, print and other advertising channels that are used to promote financial products.

A recent article in The Telegraph shows that the FSA will make the advertising of PPI packages much more stringent to stop misleading consumers as to the values of PPI. Commenting in The Telegraph, Ashley Sharpe on the Consumers’ Association says that top of the FSA’s hit list will be the advertising of PPI packages. Sharpe comments that these policies “are pushed very hard by credit card companies, but there are an awful lot of exclusions," and that “[the policies] don't cover people with pre-existing medical conditions, but our research found that card companies don't ask about them when signing people up. Consequently, a lot of people end up with a useless policy."
