Nov. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Yoga is a way of being, not just a way of exercising.  For those of you who are new to yoga, it is an ancient practice that establishes the body’s balance between strength and flexibility by combining breathing and stretching with various postures.  Typically, those who practice yoga hope to achieve psychological benefits, increased happiness, reduced stress, weight control, or overall wellness.

Cruise reportedly is disciplined when it comes to staying and shape and looking great.  He has stated he’s  into hiking, climbing, basketball and other sports.  Most movies Mr. Cruise works on are very demanding in terms of stunt training schedule.  Yoga and movies share the practice of discipline.   In order to for an actor to perform at such a high level he or she needs to have a source of sustainable energy.  Yoga can give that energy to the person to perform in a movie or just deal with stresses of daily life.

Yoga is a great way to get lean, tone up your muscles and add strength and flexibility.  The most common asana practice is very physically demanding and is done between 1 – 2 hours at a time.   The yoga practioner receives the physical benefits of the practice, but clarity of mind too.

Mrs. Strickland comments, “Not only is yoga a great way to get in shape, but the other benefits like peace of mind can help Mr. Cruise deal with the stresses he might encounter on the movie set.  As soon as I start to see an actor freak out, I get them to breathe.  It works every time to calm them down.”  Marne Strickland offers free online classes, a yoga blog, and other yoga tips at www.freeyogamoves.com.
