Oct. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Those involved in the care and welfare of the elderly in and around Surrey and South London are invited to attend a seminar aimed at highlighting the specific issues faced by older citizens.

The seminar, which takes place at 6pm on Thursday 18 November 2010 at the Croydon Park Hotel, will be lead by Daniel Blake of Action for Elder Abuse and is being organised by Croydon-based lawyers Atkins Hope (http://www.atkinshope.co.uk), a firm with substantial expertise in safeguarding the interests of those in the community who are most vulnerable: children and the elderly.

Safeguarding the Elderly
Daniel Blake, who has senior management responsibility for the Elder Abuse Response Helpline which deals with some 9,000 calls annually, will deliver a talk encompassing subjects such as the nature and prevalence of the abuse of older people and how solicitors respond and intervene; Office of the Public Guardian; Court of Protection and Powers of Attorney. It will be of particular interest to anyone working at the heart of the elderly sector.

Daniel held a seat on the No Secrets advisory group focused on the prevention, identification, investigation and treatment of the abuse of vulnerable adults, and has been involved in a variety of issues affecting those in later life including the development of the Crown Prosecution Service Crimes Against Older People Policy.

His talk at the Altyre Road venue will last around an hour and following on there will be an open forum for questions and then informal networking until 9pm. Charlotte Collier, Managing Partner of Atkins Hope, will present the welcome and the firm’s specialist older persons team will be on hand to discuss any issues one on one.

Places are free but strictly limited in numbers. To book, contact Atkins Hope Solicitors on 020 8680 5018.
