International conference on globalization in India and the USA: Law, Governance and Business being held jointly by the O.P. Jindal Global University, India and Yale University, USA on the 29th n 30th of October, 2010

A week before US President Barack Obama’s anticipated state visit to India, Yale University and O.P Jindal Global University (JGU) will jointly hold an international conference of globalization at the JGU (http://www.jgu.edu.in) campus in Sonipat. While other foreign universities have held similar co-hosted events, this is the first time Yale would be involved in such a partnership. The event has attracted the attention of several distinguished public figures and scholars from United States and India.

The 2-day conference, which begins on October 29, 2010, will be co-inaugurated by Professor Richard Levin, President of Yale University (http://www.yale.edu); Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister of Haryana; Naveen Jindal, Chancellor of JGU; Salman Khursheed, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, Government of India; and Dr. Veerappa Moily, Union Minister of Law and Justice, Government of India.

Prominent speakers include Professor David Grewal of Harvard University; Ashwani Kumar, Director of India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI); Professor Peter Schuck of Yale Law School; Nayan Chanda of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization; Professor Ian Shapiro of the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University; Vinod Dhall, the former Chairman of the Competition Commission of India; and N. Ravi, Editor of The Hindu.

The conference would cover a wide variety of contemporary issues such as the enhancement of the rule of law globally and within the United States and India; corporate governance and regulation; problems presented by trade, development and migration; balancing national security strategies and civil liberties; confronting inequality and exclusion through democratic participation; and environmental sustainability in the context of climate change.

Day 1 of the conference would be held at the JGU campus 11 am onwards and Day 2 would be held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi from 9 am onwards.
