Oct. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Park Lawn’s 1st Annual “A Rhapsody in Blue” will replace the Zazz Singles Auction that was held the past 21 years in February.  The reason for the change was to bring the live auction back to the South Suburbs that focuses more on Park Lawn’s mission to provide services that promote independence, choice and access to community living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The volunteer committee for Park Lawn’s 1st Annual, “A Rhapsody in Blue” Auction had a meeting recently to prepare for Saturday, February 19th, 2011.  Committee members organizing the auction include Park Lawn family members, board directors and local community volunteers.

The name, “A Rhapsody in Blue” was created by committee members Maureen and Charles Reilly and Cheri Boublis.  The committee agreed that since the definition of the word rhapsody means enthusiasm, they wanted to highlight the eager feeling Park Lawn participants express every day when attending Park Lawn’s programs and services.  They also felt Park Lawn’s blue colors are appropriate for a winter experience.

Their goal for the evening is to bring an elegant downtown type experience in the South Suburbs.  Attendees of “A Rhapsody in Blue” dinner and auction can expect valet parking, a premium open bar, dinner, live / silent auctions, and dancing to live music by Sundance.  The committee is excited to present to attendees ice sculptures lined with blue lighting.  Guest can expect a tasteful musical backdrop during cocktail hour by a jazz trio.  Auction attendees will be treated like celebrities when Park Lawn’s photographer captures a special moment of guests with a commemorative keepsake photo.

Already, Park Lawn staff and committee members have secured live auction items like Chicago Bears tailgating package, sports items and tickets, an aerobatic thrill ride, a sunset cruise on Lake Michigan and more.

Another highlight of the Live Auction will be the “Fund-A-Cause”.  The money raised through the “Fund-A-Cause” will support Park Lawn’s Angel Program.  This program provides clothing, shelter, medical supplies and more for Park Lawn residents with little to no family involvement.

Chicago Gaelic Park has arranged with the auction committee members a dinner to include beef tenderloin and chicken with all of the sides.  Guest can expect premium win to be served during dinner with desserts to follow.

Proceeds from “A Rhapsody in Blue” will benefit Park Lawn’s mission to provide services that promote independence, choice and access to community living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  More information about Park Lawn can be found at www.parklawn.com.
