New Digital Aviation Magazine Far Exceeds Initial Readership Projections

Airplanista Magazine is a monthly online aviation magazine with features, commentary, and stunning aviation photography. Published for pilots and the general aviation community. Sometimes serious. Sometimes humorous. Always unpredictable.

Oct. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- The readership of the inaugural issue of Airplanista Magazine found at http://airplanista.com far exceeded projected goals in it’s first month of existence, says the publication’s Editor/Publisher Dan Pimentel. Without any previous track record, the new digital magazine projected only 1,000 online readers, but ended the first month with nearly 11,000 confirmed readers, and over 190,000 individual page views.

"This massive underestimation of readership proves that the aviation community is hungry for something new and different in aviation publications," said Pimentel. “When you think about it, for far too long, there really hasn’t been anything new in the way of aviation journalism coming to market for the general aviation consumer. It is obvious that the aviation community has embraced this digital magazine format. We had no idea if people would think it was more like a website, or a print magazine. It turns out that the format works - people love the online aspect because they can take it with them everywhere, but they are really enjoying the look, which is just like a print magazine."

The business model that makes Airplanista free and easily accessible on the Internet is helping to make the magazine even more popular than had been envisioned. “What I’m hearing is that people love the way Airplanista reads like a print magazine, is priced like a blog, and features the clickable hyperlinks like a website. I refer to this project as old school journalism meets new media buzz because it still takes solid J-school grunt work and intricate page layout skills to produce a magazine that is delivered via a slick digital process. And it can be easily shared with family, friends and colleagues with the click of your mouse. It’s a win-win for readers,” Pimentel explained.

For advertisers, the new magazine presents an attractive value. "Unlike web advertising," Pimentel said, "an aviation business can save money by using their existing print display ads since our product is essentially a print magazine delivered in an all-digital format at http://airplanista.com. But unlike print ads, all URLs in our ads are clickable, creating interactivity that print publications cannot match. The lower overall production costs of our digital format also allows us to offer extremely competitive ad rates."

Airplanista Magazine is published on the first of each month, online at http://airplanista.com. Viewing the magazine is free and requires no sign-up or registration, however there is an optional email notification list established to alert readers when each new issue publishes. The target audience is a combination of general aviation pilots, aircraft owners, professional pilots and those in aviation business and industry.
