A Bike Ride for a Charitable Cause, “Road to Awareness” at the Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers

Oct. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- In its second consecutive year, the Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers made another remarkable charity event with the successful completion of the "Road to Awareness 2010" as part of the hotel corporate social responsibility.  This year’s fund raising campaign was organized with the Starwood Middle East initiative to support the UNICEF "School for Africa" project.

The event took place on October 27th 2010 at the Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers where participants came from various organizations and rode on seven stationary bikes provided by Fitness First Saudi Arabia. Present at the opening ceremony were United Kingdom Ambassador H.E. Sir Tom Philipps, South African Ambassador H.E. John Davies, UNICEF Representative Ms. Maha Al  Efrayi , UK Defense Attaché  Mr. Graeme Morisson, Sheraton Riyadh General Manager Mr. Stuart G. Birkwood and other guests.

The 12-hour stationary bike marathon started at 8AM and drew riders from the UK Embassy, British International School of Riyadh, SANGCOM, BMI & Lufthansa German Airlines, and in-house guests.  "It is nice to see a wide variety of volunteers from different communities supporting a great cause," said Stuart G. Birkwood.

Each participant was given a certificate of appreciation handed over by Mr. Mohamad Beydoun, Sheraton Riyadh Human Resources Director along with a souvenir “Road to Awareness” t-shirt courtesy of Adman Shamran Trading Company.

The “Road to Awareness” started in May 2008 when 12 Starwood representatives in the EAME division initiated a bike ride by cycling 450km, including Mont Ventoux, one of the most notorious mountain climbs in the Tour de France. Their heroic efforts succeeded in raising nearly 250,000 Euros for a child-to-child radio project in Mozambique in partnership with the Children of UNICEF.
