Universal Athletic Club Honored

Oct. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Lancaster, Pa., October 27, 2010 — Universal Athletic Club was recently presented with the 2010 Corporate Award from the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The Corporate Award is given annually to a privately-owned business that contributes to the society to help advance research in the fight against blood cancers.  

To help LLS, Universal provides access to the society’s Team in Training participants. Team in Training groups compete in marathons, half marathons and 100-mile bike rides to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma research. Universal also provides space for the group to meet and gives them the opportunity to recruit more member supporters at the club.

Beth Mehmet, executive director of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, said Universal’s contribution is a “tremendous help” in advancing their mission of achieving a 100% cure rate of blood cancers. Mehmet explained that Universal’s facilities allow the Team in Training to work out safely regardless of the weather. Universal also reserves lanes in their swimming pool on Sunday mornings specifically for the Team.

“Universal Athletic Club is so honored to receive the Corporate Award from the LLS,” said Universal Executive Director Tom Kulp. “We have a long-term relationship with them and are happy to provide the services that we do for such a great organization. The money that they bring in to help to find a cure is amazing.”

Universal was presented with the award at the society’s annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet held on August 12, 2010 in Hershey.
