PROVIDING ARTIFICIAL LIMBS FOR LANDMINE VICTIMS Did you know that landmines injure 15,000 to 20,000* people every single year? A majority of them have been civilians and children, who have died due to the sheer impact. Those who survive have to deal with a life no less painful than death, due to limb amputations. Efforts like these prosthetic limbs offer rapid support to injured people and help them to not give up on themselves. In partnership with the Friends In Need Society, Hope for Children uses a mobile workshop that travels to remote areas where children and young adults are measured and fitted with these artificial limbs. FINS endeavours to improve the quality of life and advance the rights of physically handicapped and disabled persons by 1. Helping amputees and other disabled persons to regain mobility and overcome the physical and psychological trauma of limb-loss and loss of mobility. 2. Helping amputees and disabled persons to regain their self-esteem, dignity and sense of well being and re-integrate with mainstream society by leading as normal a life as possible. 3. Helping disabled children to continue their schooling without interruption and develop their full potential by providing educational grants. 4. Providing needy amputees and disabled persons with interest free loans to enable them to undertake income generating activities so that they could support themselves. 5. Setting an example to other prospective employers by employing amputees and disabled persons. (At least 12 of the HOPE/FINS's staff are disabled). We are asking the public to give a little hope every month. Through our new simple online Direct Debit facility, people are now able to support the work that happens here every month. This will mean that we can plan our budgets and deliver aid and help to more children around the world. Every penny from every pound from public donations goes to the cause for which it was donated; the children we support and offer Hope to in over 30 countries around the world. HOPE – please give it generously.
