Follow on Google News | Houston Dance Company Founded by Former Principal Ballerina Kicks Off Its 2010-2011 SeasonEarthen Vessels: The Sandra Organ Dance Company announces its line-up for an exciting 13th season.
By: Camille Scott Sandra Organ Solis founded Earthen Vessels SODC in 1997. It was a natural transition after spending 15 years dancing with the Houston Ballet as its first African American ballerina. The mission of this non-profit dance company is to use dance to educate, enrich and empower diverse audiences, young and old. The 13th season of Earthen Vessels: The Sandra Organ Dance Company will include three extraordinary productions that tell stories of past and present: • December 18-19, 2010 – Amahl and the Night Visitors by James Sewell performed at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, 800 Bagby, Houston, Texas 77002. o This holiday favorite incorporates sign language with dance to tell the story of a widow and her disabled child. It’s a heartwarming tale full of hope. • February 20-27 – Black History Month presentation of Luck Of The Draw. Performed at Barnevelder Movement Arts Complex, 2201 Preston, Houston, Texas 77003. o SODC’s annual and visual history lesson features dance to the music of Scott Joplin, games of chance and art works of Black visual artists. • March 23-26, 2011 – Si Se Puede performed at Talento Bilingue De Houston, 333, Jensen Dr., Houston, Texas 77003. o Our tribute to the legacy of Cesar Chavez and the farm workers movement is also bilingual.
