By: Jacie Anne Reynolds “I started out like most in this industry,” explains Michael, “I had no clue as to how to go about becoming a bodyguard, and law enforcement seemed like a natural first step into the business for me.” So, Michael got a job with a police department and off to the Academy he went. Thirteen years later, Michael still protects and serves - but for private clients now, rather than the general public. “Even though I had often dreamed of this job, I had never really taken any steps to make it a reality. It was just by luck that I’m here today doing what I love.” While working a bomb dog in Afghanistan, he was offered the unique opportunity to provide Executive Protection to VIPs in that country. After accepting the job, he says “I got my training, and then got more training.” “Training is constant,” Michael adds, “When I’m not working, I’m doing some type of training, whether its hitting the bags in the gym, or attending a conference or training school.” A trained professional is an ideal candidate for the job. However, in a virtually unregulated industry there are many that assume the bodyguard role with no real training. Add to this, the ever-so-common “buddyguard system” (where untrained people get hired simply because they’re friends with the protected). An estimated 78% of all service providers lack the knowledge, experience or training to properly protect their clients. “I offer a unique service to my clients by the very fact that I have been trained. I not only look after their personal safety - I look after other interests, such as their good name and try to prevent any embarrassment to that name.” With work and training, it might seem that Michael would have little time for much else. But, despite his busy schedule, the omnipresent necessity of constant networking is what keeps him working. Most of his down days are filled with constant phone calls and emails to potential clients and his network of associates located around the world, which make his life easier. “I can go with a client to any place in the world, but with today’s technology, I can go to any place with the heads up about what to expect when we get there.” To learn more about the celebrity bodyguard, or his executive VIP & dignitary protection services, please visit Michael’s website at http://www.michaelsaad.com, or visit his blog about the bodyguard business at http://www.michaelsaad.net. # # # Michael Saad is an International Security Consultant providing bodyguard and security services to corporate VIP's, dignitaries and celebrity clients.
