Follow on Google News | Rochon And Kelly Honored At Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival AwardsActress Debbie Rochon and filmmaker Brett Kelly were honored at the awards ceremony for the Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival on Sunday, October 24th. The festival also honored local, national, and international films.
By: Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival The festival committee surprised Rochon with her “Dedication to Excellence in Independent Filmmaking” award, which was preceded by a tribute video comprised of testimonials from her colleagues. She was the festival’s Guest of Honor, and participated in all question and answer sessions with attending filmmakers. Kelly received the Genre Spirit Award for his diverse filmmaking interests and skills. Kelly screened his humorous superhero film AVENGING FORCE: THE SCARAB and offered budding filmmakers distribution advice. EL MONSTRO DEL MAR! from Australia won Best Horror Feature and Best Director for Stuart Simpson. THE FAMILIAR, from Canada, won Best Horror Short and Best Screenplay for Kody Zimmerman. TRUE NATURE from the U.S. won Best Actress for Marianne Porter and Best Cinematography. Daniel Reininghaus won Best actor for EYES BEYOND, Canda. And Emma Julia Jacobs won Best Special Make-Up Effects for the slasher thriller M. The Western DAMN YOUR EYES won Best “More than Horror” Short and the psychedelic science fiction film TRIPTOSANE won Best “More than Horror” Feature. Buffalo Screams also honored local films from the Western New York region. HOUSE OF HORRORS: THE MOVIE won Best WNY Horror Fetaure. DAVIS won two awards: Best WNY Horror Short and Best Editing. Andrew Lavin won Best WNY Special Make-Up Effects Artist. Sam Qualiana and Kash Costner each received a “Filmmaker to Watch” award, and Jason Mager and John Renna shared the Local Grindhouse Award for their films BORN TO DIE and IT’S IN BACK.
