Oct. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Conquer Prostate Cancer: How Medicine, Faith, Love and Sex Can Renew Your Life has been recognized with its fifth book award, as this year’s Florida Publishers Association President’s gold medal winner for excellence in adult nonfiction. A panel of 25 librarians selected the top books in 16 categories, and the award-winning authors are from Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Canada.

The author, Rabbi Ed Weinsberg, Ed.D., a prostate cancer survivor, healthcare educator and gerontologist living in Sarasota, Fla., accepted the gold medal at the recent FPA award banquet. Also attending was the book's contributing author, Dr. Robert Carey, a robotic surgeon at the Urology Treatment Center of Sarasota.

"The gold medal Rabbi Ed received is well-deserved as this is the only urology book I’ve seen patients read from cover to cover," remarked Dr. Carey.

Conquer Prostate Cancer received four national book awards in 2009, including the Silver Nautilus Award for leading edge health books, the Indie Excellence Award for men’s issues, as well as the Indie Excellence Award and Next Generation Indie Book Award for health books.

"I am thrilled that the book continues to receive this kind of recognition," says Rabbi Weinsberg. “Its appeal is that it addresses technical medical concerns in a down-to-earth, upbeat manner. While prostate cancer is the leading non-skin male cancer, my book explains how it affects older people and boomers, including men and the women in their lives."

"The book also demonstrates how we can cope with this disease medically, physically, emotionally and spiritually. If nothing else, it underscores that we’re well on our way to conquering prostate cancer, rather than having prostate cancer conquer us," he adds.

Rabbi Weinsberg and his book continue to gain national and international acclaim. He will be a featured speaker at the Zoomer Show, annually attended by thousands of baby boomers, during the CARP (Canadian Association of Retired Persons) Conference in Vancouver on November 27. He will speak about  strengthening doctor-patient relationships when cancer strikes.

Prostate cancer patients, survivors and their families can find resources and information for coping with prostate cancer and its aftermath at the book’s companion website, http://conquerprostatecancernow.typepad.com. The award-winning book is available there and at Amazon.com, and a portion of its proceeds will benefit prostate cancer support and education.
