Oct. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- This week Jackie Monroe and Dr. Russ Buss had the pleasure of interviewing U.S. Senator Carl Levin of Michigan on the subject of “optimism in politics” on their radio show, MI Optimism. It will be aired this coming weekend.  A regular feature of the show is called “Google the Day;" a simple tool to practice an optimism enhancement and maintenance.

Dr. Russ and Jackie explain that “Google the Day” is a strategy that gets us quickly to a list of events and people throughout history and modern times.  Behind each event or person is a more detailed story that has the possibility to have some deeper personal and inspirational meaning for a given individual.  Learning more about one of these events and persons can then serve as a springboard to launch into an optimistic moment or series of them.

When Jackie “googled” the date October 24, she found the following event:

   * In 1861, the first transcontinental telegraph lines were completed.

History has shown that the completion of such a monumental feat could only have been done with government and political support and the 19th Century American Spirit of optimism.

When they asked Senator Levin:  "What optimism comes to mind when you are reminded of f this historical event.?"

   * He immediately responded that he had family members traveling overseas with whom he was keeping in touch daily through Skype and e-mail.   You could tell from the smile on his face and gleam in his eye what positive imagery had come into his mind by being reminded of this historical event and the possibilities it created for people to communicate near instantaneously some 150 years ago when previously they had only had the pony express.

To hear more of Senator Levin’s comments on and stories about “Optimism and Politics” tune into "MI Optimism: A Positive Place on the Radio" with four airings over the upcoming weekend: October 23 and 24; 2 and 5pm on Saturday, and 9am and 3pm on Sunday.  Can’t tune in over the weekend?  Check for the podcast link the middle of next week.
