Toronto NBA Hoops Show Hosts Battle The Odds

Toronto natives, Dave Mendonca and Audley Stephenson have overcome many challenges to co-host the globally popular online radio/television basketball talk show, The NBA Breakdown, while proving to the hoops world they truly belong.

Oct. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- When you think basketball, you wouldn't associate two guys from the Great White North as knowing much about it or anything else that doesn't relate to hockey pucks.

Welcome to Dave and Audley's world. Since starting their program in August 2008, this funny Odd Couple have continued to surprise hoops fans in the U.S. and the world with their knowledge, humorous personalities, quality guests and commitment to "hoops talk, the way it should be!"

Yes, Canadian and inventor of basketball, James Naismith would be proud.

It's been a long road for Dave and Audley. They originally met ten years ago at a Canadian national television sports network (The Score) in Toronto where Dave was a reporter and Audley was an intern. They lost touch for awhile until 2008 when they re-connected on Facebook. From there, they combined forces to create The NBA Breakdown.

Things were not easy.  While building the popularity of the show, Dave, who was no longer at the Score, worked various low-end jobs to make ends meet and Audley dealt with a demanding daily schedule which included 3 kids (one of which has special needs), two jobs and a successful leadership speaking career.

It also didn't help that NBA teams didn't take them seriously because, as an online show, they weren't considered legitimate media worthy of player interviews and media credentials.

With all of these hurdles, why didn't these guys give up?

"We believe in ourselves. We know we have a quality show that brings great value to basketball fans worldwide," says Stephenson. "We connect with people because we're authentic. When you listen to us, we sound like we can be your friends talking hoops."

Serving up "hoops talk, the way it should be" is what these two do best. Their passion and comedic talent come through in every interview they do. They've had fun speaking with everybody from actress, Vivica A. Fox to 1986 NBA Slam Dunk champion, Spud Webb.

Dave recalls the Fox interview vividly, "Yeah, it was the only time I ever heard Audley speechless."

Now entering their third season, The NBA Breakdown promises to go to another level with bigger guests, entertaining videos and written content on their official website, www.TheNBABreakdown.com.

In fact, they enlisted the blogging talents of former Toronto Raptors forward, Sharone Wright who will share his witty insider NBA information and opinions on a weekly basis.

It's a fine addition to a website that has already been visited by fans in over 100 countries.

Yes, Dave and Audley have come a long way to achieve many terrific things, but it's only the beginning.

Not bad for a couple of average guys from the Great White North. Not bad at all.
