Oct. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., — Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) today announced the next date and venue for Latino2, its popular California event series. Honoring Central California’s historical role in the national farm labor movement, Latino2 will stage an event at the San Luis Obispo Performing Arts Center entitled, “Community and Collaboration in Central California: Then and Now.” LATISM also made a formal call for speakers for the event, seeking leaders in social media from both the non-profit and for-profit arenas. To register for this free, sponsor-supported event, go to latino2centralca.eventbrite.com.

Co-produced by Central California bloggers Jesse Luna and Jose Huitron, the Central California event hopes to tap groundswell of activity in the social media community in one of the most significant places in California Latino history.

“Not only is San Luis Obispo the midway point between Los Angeles – where we began the Latino2 event tour — and the San Francisco Bay Area, it’s also adjacent to the place where many Latinos got their first exposure to grassroots community building and collaboration,” said Giovanni Rodriguez, co-founder of Latino2 and vice chair of programs and events for LATISM. “Jesse and Jose have a finger on the pulse of the new innovation that’s coming out of this region as well as a deep appreciation and respect for innovation from generations past.”

Held at the San Luis Obispo Performing Arts Center – a state-of-the-art facility at the California Polytechnic State University, one of the state’s leading educational institutions – Latino2 Central California also hopes to attract students from a broad range of studies – from communications, technology, business, and Latino studies.

“The Latino2 mission is to educate all sectors of the diverse Latino market, and students comprise an increasingly important component of the market,” said Luna and Huitron. “They’re not only the future – they’re also involved in some of the most important programs today. We’re excited to reach out to students for this event.”
