Gold's Gym Fitchburg, Wi Free cancer fighting classes 10/23-Breast Cancer Awareness

Oct. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Fitchburg, Wi-In support of the 25th anniversary of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Gold’s Gym Fitchburg is hosting a “Taster Launch” to help raise awareness for breast cancer and emphasize the importance of exercise.  Gold’s Gym will have 10 back-to-back “Teaser” classes from 7:30am until noon (Body Pump, Body Jam, Body Combat, Body Attack, Body Vive, Body Step, Body Flow, Rowing, Yoga and Cycling) free for its community members to try out.

According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation website, regular exercise appears to lower breast cancer risk by about 20 percent.    It also explains how cancer often develops because of genetic susceptibility and the exposure to environmental risk factors. Meaning, a person cannot change their genes but they can change their environment, such as food intake or exercise. With 1 in 8 women in the United States (between 12 and 13%) expected to develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, making changes to obtain a healthy weight can help.

“Extra fat cells make extra estrogen, which raises your breast cancer risk” reported by Aolhealth.com. “Getting regular exercise and watching what you eat can help.”

According to the National Cancer Institute, scientists estimate that about 11,000 to 18,000 deaths per year from breast cancer in U.S. women over age 50 might be avoided if women could maintain a BMI under 25 throughout their adult lives.

Gold’s Gym in Fitchburg will be honoring  National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its “Taster launch”  on October 23rd from 7:30 AM until Noon, which will provide free varied and breast cancer fighting fitness classes free for all to experience. The goal is to empower the community and join the fight against breast cancer and get people moving!
