Oct. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- There is a national park that has lots going for it, many people might have seen images of it in various forms of media or have heard about it - the Teide National park's full name is the 'Parque Nacional de las Cañadas del Teide'. It has a humongous volcanic crater which has a circumference of 48 km and Mount Teide measures up to a neck jarring 3,718 metres that means it is the highest mountain in not only in the Canary islands but all of Spain, and it is the third largest volcano in the world from it's base.

You can access the volcano by cable car, but if you want to stretch your legs then there are foot trails that give you easy access to the summit. Once you get to the top you will see some beautiful views, especially if the day is clear, as you will be able to see other Canarian islands such as Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.

It is a national park that was declared in 1954 which makes it one of Spain's oldest national park. It is also the largest national park in Spain and is very important to the Canary islands because it is one of main, if not most visited tourist attractions in all of the Canary Islands, getting over four million visitors per year. But don't worry because it is a popular place but it isn't has hustle and bustle as the popular resorts such as Playa De Las Americas and Los Cristiano. But if you were to stay in one of the apartments in Tenerife that are situated in one of those resorts then it is still easy to get to the national park.

It's a park that has been featured in the media as well, as it has been used for a backdrop and setting in films. The recent adaptation of Clash of the Titans was filmed in the Teide National Park and one of the premières for the film was in Santa de la Cruz, the capital city of Tenerife and one of the two in the Canary islands. Although the film wasn't a complete success there was one thing that movie goers did admire, that was the beautiful backgrounds and scenery and some opportunist company’s saw this as a way to cash in on that fact  As there are 'Clash of the Titans' tours that tour the not only the Teide mountain but other parts that were featured and have some relation. If you go back almost half a century to the late 1960s the cult classic One million years B.C. Was partly filmed here as well. Being that there are no active volcanoes in the Canary Islands they had to build a six to seven foot volcano on the BPC studio back lot and the eruptions and lava flows were made of wallpaper paste, oatmeal, dry ice and red dye. Also the iconic Raquel Welch picture which was one of the centre focus points in Shawshank Redemption has the Teide mountain as the backdrop.
