Follow on Google News | Reading Seminar for Parents, Kindergarten Reading Classes OfferedParents and community members are invited to learn how to teach someone to read.
By: Elsinore Fisrt Assistance Center Elsinore READ staff will instruct all parents/guardians in the use of the reading curriculum Ready, Set, Read. During the seminar, kindergarten students will take a pre-assessment with tutors, and selected students will be eligible for kindergarten classes provided through the Verizon Literacy Grant. In the classes, community volunteer tutors will work with individual or small groups of kindergarten students in reading classes under the supervision of Elsinore READ staff. Using the Ready, Set, Read curriculum, formerly Vera Clark’s Teach Me To Read English in 100 Easy Lessons, Elsinore READ is presented in collaboration with local author and elementary teacher Vera Clark, M.A. Vera Clark is a teacher at Elsinore Elementary School and is volunteering her time to instruct and apprentice community volunteers and parents in the use of the program. The book, provided through Elsinore READ, includes everything needed to teach a child (or adult) to read, including flashcards and simple, step-by-step instructions. In just fifteen minutes a day, parents can use these simple two-page lessons to teach their child to read. “Many students struggle in school, and early success in reading is clearly related to future academic success. Through Elsinore READ, we hope to support families and schools in bridging the reading gap that begins in kindergarten,” The parent seminar will take place on October 21, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Training and curriculum will be provided to the first 50 families; registration is only $5. Reading classes will take place Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. beginning October 25 and ending December 2 (no classes on 11/11 or 11/25). More information and event registration is available at www.elsinorefac.org or by e-mailing info@elsinorefac.org. Walk-in registrants are also welcome. Training seminars and reading classes will be held at Elsinore First Assembly of God at 19740 Grand Avenue, Lake Elsinore, CA 92530. ---------- For further information about the upcoming presentation or the non-profit organization, contact 866-568-3330 or info@elsinorefac.org.
