Can you see your reflection in the "Bowl"?

Volunteers Work Tirelessly to Create Bowls for the January 2011 Naples Empty Bowls Event

Oct. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Across the Naples Community, groups are gathering to create bowls for the international, grassroots, crafts-based effort to end hunger.  If you have free time and enjoy working with clay or painting, then the Naples Empty Bowls Organization would like to see your artistic reflections in assisting to make the Empty Bowls Event a success this year.  Throughout the next few months the community calendar will be filled with opportunities for you to participate.

The Empty Bowls event is a major fundraiser for the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida which distributes food to charities throughout our region.  The event invites the community to come to Cambier Park on January 29, 2011 from 11am -2:00pm and make a donation of $10 to sample a tasty soup from one of over 25 of Naples finest restaurants.  At the event guests receive an original hand crafted bowl while supplies last.  This piece of pottery should serve as a reminder throughout the year that Someone’s bowl in your community is empty.

During the past year charitable agencies have experienced an overwhelming increase in requests for food assistance with the increase of layoffs and economic troubles throughout the country.  As we approach the season to give thanks, we need to remember those that are less fortunate.  To show your thanks, simply donate a moment of your time or make a donation to help create more bowls.  Your help is needed to make a difference!

“To Know is to Care; To Care is to Act; To Act is to Make a Difference” ~ Harry Chapin

Volunteers are a vital component to the success behind the Empty Bowls movement.  Every year the excitement grows as more of our community becomes involved in the Naples Empty Bowls Event.  Join Panera Bread, Silver Spoons, and many other Naples Local Restaurants, Sweetbay, The North Naples Junior Women’s Club, Collier County Adult Education pottery students, Naples Local Potters, the Marco Art League Potters, Patrons from Kilns and Clay, students from Florida Gulf Coast University, our local high schools, and many other groups as we make a difference in our community.

To learn more about creating a bowl or making a donation, please watch the local community calendar or request an information sheet by sending an email to naplesemptybowls@yahoo.com.
