Follow on Google News | Salt Lake Counselor Uses IPhone App For Depression TreatmentSalt Lake City counselor, Lee Olsen has developed a special IPhone app to help treat depression and anxiety by tuning in to your feelings and what caused them throughout the day. The iPhone app is now available online or from your phone via iTunes
By: Lee Olsen, LCSW The application is called "The Red Dot Now" and is available in the ITunes App Store. The way the treatment works is very simple. Throughout the day at random times, the iPhone sounds a soft gong. this is a reminder for the user to pull out the iPhone and start the process. Once they touch the screen, the application takes them through a series of questions helping them become centered and aware of how they are feeling. Then, it goes one step further and has them think about what has happened to them recently to cause them to feel this way. The application acts as a pattern interrupt, and helps the user get centered in the present. Mr. Olsen finds the application and practice works very well helping patients deal with depression and anxiety. Mr. Olsen is an active psychotherapist, and relationship counselor helping patients throughout the Salt Lake Valley. He also helps patients throughout the country via telephone counseling. My practice philosophy is based on the premise that your history is important to how you got here, now how do you manage or cope with what exists. In our work together we will look at history and present, cause and effect, and then work to create understanding and objectivity, find the triggers that set you off, redirect thinking errors and create new coping skills to enhance resilience. I use effective proven clinical techniques that get results and don't require you to be in therapy for years. In today's economic environment with insurance defining care and often times giving you limited visits, my goal is to create tools to effectively enhance quality of life. I am holistic in my practice so we address the whole person, all aspects of the current emotional state and how to shift." End
