Oct. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- New Orleans, LA – The Green Matters Conference, offering professionals from law firms, municipalities and corporations an educational opportunity about green cities, law and regulation, announced today that Gael O’Brien and Kathryn Pavlovsky will hold a session titled, “Sustainability: From the Board Room to the Break Room,” at its upcoming conference. The Green Matters Conference will be held in New Orleans at Westin Canal Place, October 13-15, 2010.

The Green Matters Conference is the first of its kind, offering professionals from law firms, municipalities and industry the opportunity to participate in an environment where critical concepts of the intersections of green cities, law and regulation will be addressed. The conference theme is “Green Cities, Business and Beyond.” Attendees will learn about mitigating environmental risk, compliance with EPA, DOJ, OSHA and regulatory bodies, guidelines for SMART cities, green building architecture and how to structure green cities, businesses and practices. The three-day conference has four tracks, including legal, smart cities, sustainable businesses and economic development. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn and interact with sixty presenters across forty different sessions.

In O’Brien and Pavlovsky’s session, they will discuss the context for board decision-making, extra-financial reporting considerations, risks and opportunities and ethical risks of business as usual. The session will be held from 10:30 -11:30 AM on Thursday, October 13.

Gael O'Brien's career has focused on helping leaders and organizations earn credibility and build reputation. As a thought leader, consultant and author, her focus is leadership and ethical behavior, institutional values alignment, and strategic direction. She writes a regular column for Business Ethics, as well as her weekly column, "The Week in Ethics". Gael O’Brien is founder and principal of Strategic Opportunities Group.

Co-panelist, Kathryn Pavlovsky, is Principal, Financial Advisory Services, and co-leader of the Enterprise Sustainability Services group. Kathryn pursued a degree in environmental economics, learning about environmental, social, and economic trade-offs, and the value of natural resources. She started her career valuing environmental liabilities and supporting Deloitte U.S. audit clients with environmental disclosures and liabilities. She realized that the organization's business functions and industry focus create a unique opportunity to address clients' growing sustainability challenges, from strategy to operational integration to governance needs.

The conference will provide CLE credits for legal professionals, along with the opportunity to network with colleagues and peers. It will also offer a LEED® pre-certification training course. More information and registration is available at www.greenlegalmatters.com.
