Oct. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- Cancer Research UK has appointed Doctors.net.uk, the largest and most active network of doctors in the UK, to encourage GPs to take advantage of its state-of-the -art information bank.  The targeted three month campaign is the first of its kind undertaken by Cancer Research UK to target general practitioners.

Designed to highlight the extensive range of in-depth and up-to-the minute information services that Cancer Research UK offers to doctors and patients, the campaign aims to arm GPs with authoritative evidence-based information to improve patient consultations and earlier diagnosis.

GPs will have access to a dedicated Cancer Research UK microsite within Doctors.net.uk, containing exclusive content from the charity’s CancerInsight     publication, coupled with links to a wealth of information on latest research, statistics, clinical trials, public health campaigns and a website designed for patients.

Cancer Insight is a newsletter specifically developed for GPs providing up to date information and the latest developments in cancer research, early diagnosis and prevention.

The microsite will be promoted to GPs via a specifically targeted and tailored communication programme.

Samira Chekkour, health professional engagement manager at Cancer Research UK said: “As the biggest funder of cancer research in Europe, we offer an invaluable source of credible, evidence-based information and insights for GPs. We know that people are more likely to survive cancer if it is diagnosed at an earlier stage, so our resources play a critical role in keeping doctors abreast of the very latest advances in the field.”

“In joining forces with Doctors.net.uk we will be creating a trusted and credible campaign that will engage with and inform a large cross-section of GPs across the country We hope this partnership will help support our long term efforts to improve survival rates.”

Simon Grime, head of healthcare at Doctors.net.uk, added: “Research suggests that busy GPs are suffering acute information overload and are looking for well-researched and authoritative resources that can help their clinical practice. This campaign showcases Cancer Research UK as the premier information centre for doctors advising patients.”

Doctors.net.uk works with a wide range of charitable, government and other public sector bodies including the Department of Health and NHS, to inform and educate doctors.
